A Jaw-Dropping Jewish-Sicilian Wedding at Dimora delle Balze, Noto

It’s hard to describe this wedding with a few words – besides “OMG, we love Sicily, we loved these two, and we had a blast”. We can start by channeling its vibe, though: Jess and Evan, the sun-kissed fields of Sicily, hundreds of friends from all over the world, the mesmerizing dances of Jewish tradition… this wedding at Dimora delle Balze felt like a Sicilian homecoming and a whole new discovery at the same time.

We knew that Jessica and Evan didn’t choose Sicily, and Dimora delle Balze (plus the gorgeous Area M in Ortigia for their wedding welcome party) only for the vibes and for their undeniable beauty. Sicily is deeply rooted in Jess’s family history: her grandparents moved from Sicily to New York City in their youth, in search of a better life. Throughout her childhood, they were a constant presence, and frequent trips to Sicily consolidated her deep love and absolute fascination for her familiar motherland. Many of her living Italian relatives were guests at the wedding, too! 

Another honoring of the couple’s – in this case, shared – heritage was the choice of having a Jewish wedding ceremony. A dear friend of the couple officiated it, giving a sense of closeness and intimacy to a millennium-old wedding ceremony. Honoring the past to kickstart a great future as a married couple – and judging from their vows, from the love their friends and family showered them with, well… It’s been a spectacular beginning!

Their wedding weekend started at the iconic island of Ortigia with a portrait session around its spectacular sandstone buildings. To follow, Jess and Evan welcomed their guests with a Sicilian-style dinner (still dreaming of those arancini) at the beautiful Area M: there, the grand theme (and coloring) of their wedding weekend was already showing, but we were going to see it in all its glory the following day.

Jess and Evan got married at Dimora delle Balze: to say that we fell in love with that place would be an understatement. The way the venue mixes the beauty and iconicity of the Sicilian historical elements with the luxuries of contemporary style is simply unique. 

To showcase these peculiarities at best, the couple chose a color and material palette that could reflect and complement the Sicilian landscapes: sun-warmed, earthy tones, faded stone walls. Terracotta, burnt orange, golden yellow, muted sage green, and a splash of white – these colors, met with the iconic hand-painted tiles of Sicilian handmaking, were simply another match made in heaven.

The Jewish and Sicilian heritages of the couple have another thing in common: the joy and desire to share, enjoy, and celebrate – and so they did. The whole weekend was a blast and a party, from smashing the glass to dancing the night away with the Hora dances. We loved every second of it!
