A celebration of queer love: a same-sex wedding in florence at villa medicea di lilliano

We are so excited to share this love story. Danny and Kyle will always remain among our loveliest clients: two men who fell for one another and celebrated their love story among Tuscan sunsets, custom cocktails, and a global family of friends (some of whom had never left the United States before!).

When we look back on this day, the overwhelming feeling is one of immense joy. It wasn’t just the love shared between the two grooms, but the way that love was reflected by everyone present: a real, total, and unforgettable celebration of universal love.

Beyond the connection we felt with Danny and Kyle, we adored every detail curated by the super-talented wedding planner Laura Bravi. The welcome night (sera sotto le stelle) and the wedding day (cin cin per sempre) shared a vibrant autumn palette: burnt orange, rich yellow, plum, and deep green. It was the perfect aesthetic for a same-sex wedding in Florence, and the guests certainly delivered with their impeccably coordinated style!

The wedding day began with the grooms getting ready separately, surrounded by their closest friends and families. Kyle with his Aperol Spritz, Danny with his Hugo – a playful theme that recurred throughout the day. Both wore bespoke suits designed by The Andover Shop; Kyle in a sophisticated tan and Danny in a deep purple. Their first look in the villa’s private garden was one of the sweetest moments we’ve had the pleasure to share.

They exchanged vows in a romantic wedding ceremony on the terrace of Villa Medicea di Lilliano, overlooking the iconic Florence skyline. The floral décor mirrored the landscape: deep, autumnal tones that felt at home against the Tuscan stone. In a particularly moving moment, a friend read an excerpt from the Obergefell v. Hodges decision – the historic US Supreme Court ruling legalizing same-sex marriage. A reading that felt very personal and yet collective, a very important yet delicate stance considering the state of the world.

After the ceremony, the celebration moved to the main garden. Between artisanal cocktails and Italian delicacies, live music played in the background and the sound of cicadas, the afternoon passed wonderfully under the golden mid-October sun. We captured portraits of the newlyweds around the villa grounds before heading to dinner, where the autumn setup matched the golden hour light so magically.

Following the making of a classic, iconic Millefoglie cake, a live band took over the night. Everyone had the time of their lives dancing under the stars. It was a beautiful joining of two souls who truly found their perfect partners in one another.
